Item Carmelo di Bartolo. Biónica y diseño avanzado / Carmelo di Bartolo. Bionics and advanced design(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Alarcón Castro, Jimena“Bionics applied to design involves studying natural structures through analogue models. this approach has allowed us to experience cross-fertilisation moments, creating a new way of approaching projects and developing a common language that cuts across disciplines. This has resulted in a credible and sustainable approach to the project, akin to a real ‘school’ of thought.”- Carmelo di BartoloItem Cu-paper: investigación, diseño y ciencia para la transformación de recursos locales en innovación global / Cu-paper: Research, Design, and Science to Transform Local Resources into Global Innovation(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Amenábar, Alejandra; Contreras, Paulina; Silva, NatalyThe materials research team of the school of design at Universidad del Desarrollo (Diseño UDD) presents the cu paper project, an antimicrobial paper based on two key natural resources of the country: copper and cellulose. This research began in 2013 and involved several key components: laboratory proofs of concept, the generation of copper microparticles, and their application in industrial processes in collaboration with forestal y papelera Concepción s.a. (fpc). Additionally, the study has validated these microparticles’ antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral effectiveness against sars-cov-2. It thus becomes a technology that limits fomite transmission, expanding the properties of paper and offering the possibility of being applied in areas where paper is the main component. It opens possible future applications in construction, health, packaging, filters, sensors, and fashion. in addition, the project was integrated into the academic training of design students through workshops to develop innovative applications of antimicrobial paper, including the exhibition at the salone satellite in Milan in 2023. This research led to the university's first national and international patent, demonstrating Chile and UDD's commitment to advancing material development.Item Diseñar la experiencia. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Soto Hormazábal, MariluzThe book “Designing Experience: Innovating Services in the Era of Experience” by Gonzalo Castillo offers a comprehensive and contemporary analysis of the challenges that design faces in today's experience-driven world. It incorporates lessons learned and changes prompted by health, social, and environmental crises.Item Diseño de materiales para la transición. Prácticas y materialidades para el balance ecológico y la regeneración / Materials Design for Transition. Practices and Materialities for Ecological Balance and Regeneration(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Duarte Poblete, Sofía Soledad; Rognoli, ValentinaMaterials design for transition (made/trans) is an interdisciplinary research group at the department of design of the politecnico di Milano. It was created in 2015 under diy-materials and is led by valentina rognoli. it focuses on materials design as a core area, positioning research and practice at the intersection of ecology, biodesign, regeneration, and sustainability. with a materials-driven and material-centered approach, made/trans researchers generate theoretical and practical proposals that contribute to a cultural change related to materialities and promote a more than human-centered design approach that includes ecosystems and all their participants. the team is composed of industrial and product designers, specialists in design and engineering, and in the fashion system. the lab is part of the international platform materials experience lab, founded by Elvin Karana and valentina Rognoli in 2014. In this article, the authors discuss their vision of materials design, concluding that this emerging discipline still needs to consolidate to achieve a more significant impact. Furthermore, it is essential to prioritise its transdisciplinary character and potential when recognised by its inherent connection to biodesign and nature's inspirations.Item Diseño en regeneración. 25 años creando futuro y coevolucionando con la naturaleza / Design in Regeneration. 25 Years Creating the Future and Co-evolving with Nature(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Amenábar, AlejandraDesign is undergoing a crucial transformation. Historically, it has responded to social, technological, and environmental changes. Today, it faces a significant challenge: to move beyond sustainability towards regeneration. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the School of Design at UDD, we embraced the theme "Design in Regeneration: 25 Years Creating the Future." This theme encourages us to rethink design through a lens of positive impact. We are committed to transforming our environment and promoting co-evolution with natural and cultural systemsItem Diseño y liderazgo ético. Humanos educados frente a la Inteligencia Artificial ¿Cuál es el futuro de las escuelas de diseño? / Design and Ethical Leadership. Educated Human versus Artificial Intelligence What is the future of design schools?(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Guellerin, Christian“Intelligence is the ability to adapt” were the words of the english astrophysicist stephen hawking, who died in 2018. But to adapt to what and for what ideal? in this world of information and knowledge within everyone's reach, of generative artificial intelligence, is it a question of embodying the “educated human” of the post-modern era and thinking that knowledge guarantees the capacity to adapt? or must we deconstruct everything, refute all the teachings of the past as so many certainties that must be knocked down, barriers preventing any universal inclusion in a wokist madness consisting of denouncing all differences because they are inherently discriminatory and a factor of injustice? will knowledge ruin us, or will it save us? what is the role of design and design schools in this world when it is a question of finding meaning at a time when science and social and economic progress are no longer enough to set the course? what will the educated human (eh) be tomorrow, what leader will he/she be, and what design does this human need?Item Historia de la Fórmula 1 contada a través del diseño de circuitos / The History of Formula 1 Through Circuit Design(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Howard Amenábar, CatalinaFormula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and the most prestigious global motorsport category. Its growing popularity in recent years has generated academic and professional interest across disciplines such as engineering, advertising, economics, and design. in this intricate ecosystem, circuit design plays a crucial role, as it facilitates the development of the sport but also mirrors the historical, technological, and cultural evolution of formula 1 throughout the decades. This study analyses the modifications that formula 1 circuits have undergone throughout history and aims to identify the reasons for these changes. through a historical and methodological approach, the aim is to determine which trends have influenced the design of circuits and how they have impacted the development strategies and design decisions adopted in each periodItem Ilustrando el valor de la naturaleza / Illustrating the Value of Nature(Universidad del Desarrollo. Facultad de Diseño, 2025) Montero Murrie, ManuelaThe representation of nature has a long history associated with the evolution of art and science, where drawing has played a fundamental role in identifying, studying and recording species and phenomena. This has enabled us to gather valuable knowledge about our environment and thus understand how the natural world works. In the context of the climate crisis and uncertain futures regarding the conservation of ecosystems and their respective species of flora, fauna and fungi, illustration acquires new meaning.
