    Salud y delincuencia: Una estrecha relación entre dos mundos distintos

    Últimamente se le ha dado un gran protagonismo a la delincuencia en Chile, mas no a cómo la falta de acceso a medicamentos influye en este problema. La dificultad de costear tratamientos lleva a muchas personas a buscar soluciones en el comercio ilegal, exponiéndose a una ausencia de control sanitario y dosificación adecuada. Esto se ve potenciado por los altos precios en las farmacias y la casi nula regulación del mercado farmacéutico, generando un entorno propicio para el tráfico y uso indebido de diversos fármacos. A su vez, existe una relación entre distintas afecciones de salud con la delincuencia, puesto que influyen en el funcionamiento cognitivo y emocional. Además del daño a la salud pública, esta situación alimenta conductas delictivas asociadas a la necesidad médica no cubierta, causando un daño a la seguridad pública. Si bien, no es el único factor que incide en estos delitos, mejorar el acceso a medicamentos podría reducir significativamente su impacto. Avanzar en estudios que profundicen esta relación, ayudaría a disminuir las desigualdades sociales que perpetúan este tipo de problemáticas. Recently, crime in Chile has received significant attention, while little focus has been given to how the lack of access to medication contributes to this issue. The difficulty of affording treatments drives many people to seek solutions through the illegal market, exposing themselves to the absence of sanitary control and proper dosage. This problem is exacerbated by high pharmacy prices and the near-total lack of regulation in the pharmaceutical market, creating a favorable environment for trafficking and misuse of various medicines. In addition to harming public health, this situation fuels criminal behavior linked to unmet medical needs. Although it is not the only factor influencing such crimes, improving access to medications could significantly reduce their impact. Advancing research that explores this relationship in depth would help reduce the social inequalities that perpetuate these kinds of problems.
