Abstract
En las últimas décadas, el rápido crecimiento de la población mundial ha intensificado el proceso de urbanización, llevando a las ciudades una gran concentración de personas, servicios, producción y consumo. Esta realidad tiene un enorme impacto en términos sociales, económicos y medioambientales. Por ejemplo, la desigualdad social, el tráfico, la movilidad, etc. En este escenario, los gobiernos pueden combinar las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) con energías renovables y otras tecnologías a fin de construir ciudades más inteligentes y sostenibles, que tengan en el centro de sus prioridades al ser humano, sin afectar al medioambiente. Una ciudad sostenible, humana e inteligente es una ciudad innovadora que utiliza las tic para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas, para ser más inclusiva y para mejorar la eficiencia de sus operaciones y servicios, al tiempo que satisface las necesidades económicas, sociales, medioambientales y culturales de las generaciones presentes y futuras. Este número especial titulado “Diseño para las ciudades sostenibles, humanas e inteligentes” presenta cinco manuscritos que reportan resultados de investigaciones en diseño orientadas hacia la configuración de ciudades más sustentables mediante el aprovechamiento de las tecnologías digitales emergentes.
Over the past few decades, the world's population has grown rapidly, resulting in an increased urbanisation process. This has led to a large concentration of people, services, production, and consumption in cities, causing a substantial social, economic, and environmental impact and raising social inequality, traffic, and mobility issues. Governments can tackle these challenges in this scenario by utilising information and communication technologies (ICTs), renewable energy, and other innovative solutions to build smarter and more sustainable cities that prioritise their citizens while minimising their impact on the environment. An innovative city prioritising sustainability, humanity, and intelligence utilises ICT to enhance the well-being of its citizens, promotes inclusivity, and optimises its operations and services. This is all achieved while meeting current and future generations’ economic, social, environmental, and cultural needs. This special issue entitled "Design for Sustainable, Humane and Smart Cities" presents five manuscripts reflecting design research studies on shaping more sustainable cities in a broad sense and harnessing emerging digital technologies.
