dc.description.abstractEl Traumatismo Encefalocraneano es una patología que nace tras una agresión por fuerza mecánica externa, que genera clínica aguda y/o secuelas a pacientes dependiendo de la gravedad. Objetivo: Determinar la tasa de mortalidad por Traumatismo Encefalocraneano en el período entre 2002 – 2023 en Chile. Metodología: Investigación cuantitativa sobre las defunciones por Traumatismo Encefalocraneano entre 2002 – 2023 en Chile. La información empleada proviene desde la base de datos del Departamento de Estadística e Información de Salud y del Instituto Nacional de Estadística. No se requirió aprobación por comité de ética. Resultados: Hubo un total de 1.345 defunciones a causa de Traumatismo Encefalocraneano en el año 2023. El año con el mayor número de muertes fue 2022 con 1.563 número de fallecimientos. Se observó una tendencia al descenso a lo largo de los años. En todos los años estudiados los hombres tuvieron mayor riesgo de morir que mujeres. La región más afectada es Ñuble, superando en 2,9 veces el promedio nacional. La tasa más baja en edad fue en niños entre 5 y 9 años, mientras que la mayor fue en mayores de 80 años. Discusión: El comportamiento fluctuante de la mortalidad a través del tiempo es algo que aún debe investigarse y encontrar una posible asociación con algún otro fenómeno. Conclusión: Si bien en Chile en los últimos años se ha ido por un buen camino, se necesita seguir implementando medidas de prevención, en especial en hombres y en edades extremas. Introduction: Traumatic Brain Injury is a condition caused by an external mechanical force, leading to acute symptoms and/or long-term sequelae depending on its severity. Objective: To determine the mortality rate due to Traumatic Brain Injury between 2002 and 2023 in Chile. Methodology: Quantitative research on deaths caused by traumatic brain injury between 2002 and 2023 in Chile. The data used comes from the Health Statistics and Information Department and the National Institute of Statistics. Ethical committee approval is not required. Results: There were a total of 1.345 deaths due to Traumatic Brain Injury in 2023. The year with the highest number of deaths was 2022, with 1.563 deaths. A downward trend was observed over the years. In all years studied, men had a higher risk of death than women. The most affected region was Ñuble, which had 2.9 times the national average. The lowest mortality rate was among children aged 5 to 9 years, while the highest was in individuals over 80 years of age. Discussion: The fluctuating mortality trend over time remains an issue that requires further investigation to potentially find an association with another phenomenon. Conclusion: Although Chile has made progress in recent years, there is a need to continue implementing preventive measures, especially for men and individuals in extreme age groups.
