Sargassum, a type of brown seaweed, has been increasing its presence along the coastal regions of Latin America, driven mainly by nutrient-rich waters resulting from human activities such as sewage discharge and deforestation. This rapid and uncontrolled growth endangers marine ecosystems by depleting oxygen levels and altering the natural habitat of many marine species. In this ecological crisis, the inherent properties of sargassum can be harnessed for sustainable innovation.
