In september 2024, students from the ideation and creativity workshop at the design school of universidad del desarrollo (udd) showcased a series of accessories created through experimentation with biopolymers on the university’s boulevard. this initiative, led by instructors antonia zabala and estefanía johnson, along with designer trinidad lazcano, was made possible thanks to the teaching innovation and strengthening projects (pifd) fund of the udd centre for teaching innovation. introducing students to these concepts from the beginning of their professional training is essential in a context where responsible design and sustainability are increasingly relevant. the project, “sustainable design: creative innovation with gelatine biopolymers,” aimed to teach students about experimentation with sustainable materials and encourage their creativity in tackling complex problems through design.
