Biolumina is an innovative project that combines science and fashion with a sustainable approach, aiming to transform waste from the salmon industry—particularly salmon scales—into biosequins, a biodegradable alternative to conventional sequins used in the textile industry. Fashion faces a significant environmental challenge due to the use of non-biodegradable materials such as sequins and other textile trimmings, which contribute substantially to environmental pollution. Throughout their entire life cycle, from production to final disposal. at the same time, the salmon farming industry in chile generates a large volume of organic waste, which represents an opportunity to be repurposed through more sustainable practices.
