However, theknowledgeand confidenceof theseteams inmanagingdementiais low,andtrainingprogramsare lacking. Objective Toidentifythetrainingneedsofprimarycareteamsbyintegratinginsights fromtheseprofessionals,aswellasdementiapatientsandtheircarepartners. Methods: Qualitativeresearchmethodswereapplied,usingfocusgroupinterviews withhealthprofessionalsandindividual interviewswithpeoplelivingwithdementia andtheircarepartners.Adirectqualitativeanalysisof15recordedinterviews(3focus groupsand12individuals)wasperformedusingthetranscribeddata. Results: Primarycareprofessionalsrecognizetheimportanceofcontinuouseducationondementia andexpressed theneed formoreknowledgeabout diagnosis, symptommanagement, and interpersonal andcommunicationskills.Carepartners anddementiapatientshighlightedtheneedforabetterdiagnosticdisclosureprocess, improvedcontinuityofcare,andavailabilityofgreaterpostdiagnosissupport. Conclusion: Ourstudy,novel inLatinAmerica,stronglysupportedtheneedformore trainingindementiaforprimarycareprofessionals,aswellasforadditionalcontentand informationnotusuallyincludedinstandarddementiaeducation.
