    Carga de entrenamiento y variabilidad de la frecuencia cardiaca en una exposición aguda a la hipoxia hipobárica: Estudio de caso

    Objetivo: Analizar el control de la carga de entrenamiento en la estrategia de aclimatación empleada por dos atletas amateur (mujer y hombre) antes de una ascensión exitosa a 5460 metros. Metodología: Durante 195 días consecutivos se realizaron mediciones basales de variabilidad de la frecuencia cardiaca (VFC). Se obtuvieron cuatro muestras de sangre durante la semana previa al evento principal (Pre), inmediatamente antes de la ascensión (Pre A), después (Post A) y una semana de recuperación (Post C). Resultados: Los registros diarios de VFC matutinos parecen ser una forma útil para monitorizar el estado de equilibrio simpático-parasimpático en montañistas antes de abordar las sesiones de entrenamiento. Se observó que ambos sujetos aumentaron sus niveles de leucocitos y neutrófilos exhibiendo variaciones sobre 60% entre las condiciones pre A y post B. Eritrocitos, hematocrito y hemoglobina presentaron tras la exposición aguda a 5460 m disminuciones, lo que coincide con las diferencias porcentuales en plaquetas entre ambos sujetos (-3% y -51%). Conclusiones: Los registros diarios de VFC matutinos y de 5 minutos de duración parecen ser una forma útil para monitorizar el estado de equilibrio simpático-parasimpático. Se observaron cambios significativos en algunas células de la serie blanca.

    Hypoglycemia and glycemic variability of people with type 1 diabetes with lower and higher physical activity loads in free-living conditions using continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion with predictive low-glucose suspend system

    Introduction: Maintaining glycemic control during and after physical activity (PA) is a major challenge in type 1 diabetes (T1D). This study compared the glycemic variability and exercise-related diabetic management strategies of adults with T1D achieving higher and lower PA loads in nighttime-daytime and active- sedentary behavior hours in free-living conditions. Research design and methods: Active adults (n=28) with T1D (ages: 35±10 years; diabetes duration: 21±11 years; body mass index: 24.8±3.4 kg/m2; glycated hemoglobin A1c: 6.9±0.6%) on continuous subcutaneous insulin delivery system with predictive low glucose suspend system and glucose monitoring, performed different types, duration and intensity of PA under free-living conditions, tracked by accelerometer over 14 days. Participants were equally divided into lower load (LL) and higher load (HL) by median of daily counts per minute (61122). Glycemic variability was studied monitoring predefined time in glycemic ranges (time in range (TIR), time above range (TAR) and time below range (TBR)), coefficient of variation (CV) and mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE). Parameters were studied in defined hours timeframes (nighttime-daytime and active-sedentary behavior). Self-reported diabetes management strategies were analysed during and post-PA. Results: Higher glycemic variability (CV) was observed in sedentary hours compared with active hours in the LL group (p≤0.05). HL group showed an increment in glycemic variability (MAGE) during nighttime versus daytime (p≤0.05). There were no differences in TIR and TAR across all timeframes between HL and LL groups. The HL group had significantly more TBR during night hours than the LL group (p≤0.05). Both groups showed TBR above recommended values. All participants used fewer post-PA management strategies than during PA (p≤0.05). Conclusion: Active people with T1D are able to maintain glycemic variability, TIR and TAR within recommended values regardless of PA loads. However, the high prevalence of TBR and the less use of post-PA management strategies highlights the potential need to increase awareness on actions to avoid glycemic excursions and hypoglycemia after exercise completion.

    One year follow-up with heart rate variabiality in trail runnres

    This study aims to analyze HRV measures to provide reference values for UltraTrail Running (UTR) athletes. Sixteen Chilean UTR (12 men and 4 women) weremonitored over one year follow up. These are baseline records for each participant over a full year, during which they maintained their usual training, competitive, and rest activities. The variable use to evaluate the parasympathetic activity was, the square root of the mean value of the sum of the squared differences of all successive RR intervals (RMSSD). Additionally, Stress Score (SS) was calculated from the Poincaré's scatter plot as an indicator of sympathetic activity. This study provided baseline HRV values for UTR athletes through a percentile distribution, both in time domain measurements and the Poincaré scatter plot, for a population of UTR athletes from daily 5-minute baseline records in the supine position upon waking up.

    Uso de dispositivos digitales en el seguimiento de un Trail Runner. Estudio de caso

    El objetivo de este estudio es describir una metodología de seguimiento de un atleta de Trail Running (TR) durante cinco años a través de la captura de datos provenientes de dispositivos digitales, permitiendo asociar el ritmo de carrera y su velocidad en función de la pendiente. Se obtuvo desde la plataforma Strava las trayectorias generadas por el sistema de posicionamiento global (SPG). A partir de esta información se obtuvieron los registros de distancia horizontal, diferencia de altitud, pendiente, velocidad horizontal y velocidad vertical. Para poder analizar todo el espectro de registros en cada semana de entrenamiento se calibró un modelo de regresión cuantílica, utilizando un rango de 8 semanas precedentes y se extrajeron, para cada decil del desempeño registrado, los parámetros P0: ritmo mínimo; m1: ángulo crítico C+ (registro relativo de correr en subidas) y C- (registro relativo de correr en bajadas). Se concluye que la captura de datos diarios a través de un dispositivo digital, parecen ser una forma útil de obtener información sobre el ritmo de carrera ajustado a una pendiente cualquiera. Un modelo regresión cuantílica podría ser de utilidad para el diseño del programa de entrenamiento para un atleta de TR.
