Sus factores de riesgo incluyen tabaco, alcohol, el virus papiloma humano y diagnóstico tardío. En América Latina y Chile, su prevalencia y mortalidad son altas, especialmente en hombres, aunque preocupa el aumento en mujeres. A partir de ello urge promover la educación y prevención para un diagnóstico temprano y reducir la mortalidad. Oral cancer is a malignant neoplasm, commonly of squamous cells, that affects the tongue, gums, and palate tissues. Its risk factors include tobacco, alcohol, human papillomavirus, and late diagnosis. In Latin America and Chile, its prevalence and mortality are high, especially among men, although the increase among women is concerning. Therefore, promoting education and prevention to facilitate early diagnosis and reduce mortality is urgent.
