I am referring to microeconomics and especially to the role of the State in relation to open competition and market regulation, in other words, to the economic policies associated with monopolistic markets, externalities, and information asymmetries, and therefore, where economics and politics interact, as they involve the design of laws and economic institutions. This area, which I studied as part of the Ph.D. program in Chicago by the late 1970s and early 1980s, is the one I will address in the following sections. First, I will refer to the leading professors in this field of economic science, describing their main contributions and publications. Then, I will mention the courses they taught and the main contents. Next, I will analyze if there was a “Chicago School” that had an influence in this field.
